Designed cover title based on the English original version, laid out and typeset book interior, including several correction rounds
BRIEF: The original book “Before You Were Born” was released in 2021 by HarperCollins Publishers Australia. The German version called “Endlich bist du da” was released by CalmeMara Verlag in August 2023. I worked on preparing the files and keep as much to the original book as possible because it was already a masterpiece. I can only recommend to take a closer look at the website of Hélène Magisson and also
Kristy Lund-White who is the initial cover and interior designer of the original book.
My contribution beside the typesetting of the German version was to create the custommade title which would be front and centre of the book cover. I have also sneaked in a little bucket with a mini book version of this very book on the back cover for promoting the good cause of every sold book. You can see it in one of the images below.
I had a lot of fun designing the title and without anthropomorphizing the letters too much, I tried to create a d that is about to hug the a like a mother would do, which is another hint what the book is about: the anticipation of the parents waiting to welcome their newborn child into this world.
