Design of the book cover, including drawing

BRIEF: Julia McDermott, connecting with me through Reedsy, shared a compelling vision for the book cover. She proposed a design that captures a profound visual metaphor: contemporary individuals gazing into a window, their reflections revealing themselves dressed in late 19th-century attire. Recognizing the nuanced nature of the concept, Julia suggested avoiding a photo-realistic approach in favour of a more artistic interpretation—potentially a drawing, a sepia-toned image, or a monochromatic composition.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:  The Face In the Window is an analysis of American actors performing in Australia from 1850–1915. Quoting the introduction, "While the facts in this book pertain to theatre in the nineteenth century, it is about the function of American images in the construction of Australian culture and what that implied about both Australia and America."
